Car Warriors

Got my first 2 actual combat cars for Warlands done this morning.

I'm playing my first game of Dark Future in (I'm guessing) 20+ years tomorrow so it was a good excuse to paint up some new cars.

These are definitely the best Warlands models I've gotten so far.  The cars a cross between the Interceptor from Mad Max and the Interceptor (funny they both have the same name) from Freeway Fighter (one of the original Fighting Fantasy game books).  At 20mm the detail level is serviceable, you get all the bits and pieces you need without any superfluous details.

I'm looking forward to painting my last interceptor and it's driver and his faithful hound tomorrow.

Super-Cop From The Future!

Today I decided to take a quick side-step back into superheroes and paint a Supersystem figure I bought quite awhile back; Krieghund.

The character is meant to be an evil villain from a pseudo Fourth Reich organization but when I first saw him my first thought was that he would work really as a member of the XSE (the future mutant police force of which Bishop of X-Men fame was a member).  I painted him up and realized almost immediately I didn't like how he had turned out, I had used some red and yellow details to match him up to Bishop's 90's era uniform but it just looked too bright for my liking.  So back to the drawing-board I decided to abandon the idea of using him as a Marvel character and decided he would be used in either DC Adventures or for actual Supersystem games.

I'm very happy with how he turned out but I am very unhappy with my ability to get good photos of him.  In going with my darker pallet the whole thing looks vey monochromatic in the photos.  he actually has blue uniform, black boots and dark grey gloves and belt but in my pic it looks all one generic shade of "dark".

Evil Treant (because why not?)

I hope my absence wasn't too long for everybody, I just got back from a much needed vacation and I'm back in the hobby swing with a small quick project tonight.

A recurring theme here lately has been my re-using and re-cycling pre-painted models but tonight I'm actually potentially using a piece of scenery from an old game as a gaming piece for  a new game.

Years ago after success with Mage Knight and then Heroclix the folks at WizKids started trying to make 'clix' games for every genre.  Some did okay and some did not.  One of the series that was moderately successful but never hit the heights of their big 2 was Horrorclix.  Horrorclix started out being a mash-up of B-movie tropes, classic nightmares and an assortment of other boogeymen before moving into the realms of Aliens and Predator and then falling off the map.  In the original Horrorclix starter set there was a map sheet and 1 piece of scenery included; a weird semi-sentient looking tree.  This piece sat on a shelf for years because I never knew if I would use it for anything but I couldn't bring myself to give it away or throw it out..  I took another look at it right before I left on my vacation and realized that it was much better suited to being used as a monster than as a piece of scenery....a few touch-ups and a base later and another model gets added to my growing collection of miscellaneous horror stuff.

It's good to be back and I'm looking forward to clearing off the remnants of my 3 outstanding painting projects from my desk and getting onto some new stuff shortly.

Project Vampire: 2 Units Of Zombies started

Tonight I got my first 2 (small) units of zombies started for my eventual Warhammer/Kings Of War armies.

All these figures are of the Strahd Zombies from the D&D pre-painted miniature line.  The plan is to mix these in with 3 other variants of zombie figures I have and am presently re-basing to finish up with 2 units of 20 zombies each.

The next 8 are almost done, so only 6 more after that.  Once those are done I will have 3 core units for a Warhammer Vampire Counts army and/or 2 units for a Kings Of War army done.  Not a bad start and so far it's just re-cycling.

A little bit of Frankenstein

Tonight I finished re-painting another D&D pre-painted model.  This time I have a number of potential uses in mind for the fig.

The figure itself is intended to be a Flesh Golem and it could be used as such for D&D or Pathfinder as well as being a suitable Frankenstein's monster for Chaos In Carpathia or Flesh Construct for Malifaux.

I've always liked this figure and he makes a great companion piece to the over-sized Werewolf from the other day.

A new Gnoll Warrior joins the group

I finished my second (of five) Gnolls for my upcoming Pathfinder game.  This is another basic warrior to go along with the first figure.  This time around I decided to go for light coloured flesh and extremely dark fur.  I'm really happy with how the contrast turned out.

One of the side benefits of getting excited about using 'classic D&D' monsters for my upcoming game is that it's gotten me to go back and re-visit some old source material and fiction to establish the tone for my game and I have to say I'm really looking forward to a game that has that back to basics high-fantasy feel.

A giant (and I do mean giant) Werewolf

This morning I finished re-basing and touching up a giant werewolf I've had kicking around from the D&D pre-painted miniatures line for awhile.

I'm not sure when or if I'll use this guy (I'm sticking to my no horror models in my next fantasy RPG rule) but I really like the fig and figured I could use him for some Chaos In Carpathia games or possibly check my Bestiaries and see if there is some sort of giant or mutant Gnoll he could represent.

To give you an idea just how big this guy is I took a quick shot of him standing next to one of my Revenant Pirate crew which is a heroic 30mm model.

Cheers
